Cake Reflection x

During today's hospitality and catering lesson, Aja and I baked a Chocolate layered cake that was filled with chocolate icing. I took on the role of combining all the different wet and dry ingredients together, whilst Aja read the instructions carefully and directed me thoroughly through the long recipe. I learned many new helpful skills today that I have never heard or seen of before. One of these common skills was the interesting fact that when you run the golden syrup bottle through hot water, it will easily come out without any hesitation. This helped my partner and I because we were struggling to get any of the sticky liquid out of the bottle and this very skill was exactly what we needed. I believe that the chocolate cake recipe that we had chosen was very easy to follow even though we may have misread some steps along the way. I would highly recommend this cake recipe because it is really specific and leads to the perfect chocolate cake. Once we had completed our chocolate layered cake we were extremely impressed with the end results. It honestly turned out better than we had expected because it looked really appetising and it was immensley rich in good flavour as well. Something that we could do differentley to improve our recipe next time would be to use more chocolate icing so we can frost the rounded sides of our cake. This would have definitley made it look more clean and professional in oppose to how untidy our edges seemed in the picture above.

I beleive that me and Aja worked remarkably well together so Im looking very foward to work along side her in our classes, as she is my closest friend.

Three steps that we followed to keep our baking hygenic was to:
Regulary wash our hands.
Always clean up after our selfs.
Keep our hair tied back or up.

Thank you :)

Genetics & Evolution

~ Genetics & Evolution ~

Today I will be describing a Siberian Husky. The Husky gets its genetic material from Chukotka sled dogs from Siberia. Huskies reproduce by using sexual reproduction. When sexually reproducing a Husky, the offspring produces genetic variation within the species so they can adapt to new environments, which gives them a survival advantage. The Siberian Husky is naturally purebred unless the owner decides to breed a non purebred Husky.

Over the past 4 weeks we have been learning about Genetics and Evolution. Evolution is a change in an offspring's characteristics over successive generations. These particular characteristics are expressions of genes that are passed from the parent to the offspring during reproduction. Natural selection is the process in which living organisms adapt to an environment and change. This is a key mechanism in evolution. Artificial selection is when humans select for desirable traits in animals. This is the complete opposite of natural selection whereas the species evolve and change gradually without human interference. Artificial selection occurs when humans want to mold organisms to their needs. This process occurs If there is additive genetic variance for the selected trait, it will respond to the selection, that is, the trait will evolve.

Human Rights Evaluation- Sera B

Racism

In this unit I have focused on the racism. People are being discriminated against their own unique culture and the colour of their skin.
This is in relation to Equity and Equality because we should all be equivalent to same human rights dependent on need.  These individuals who have suffered from racism are only attacked because of their  personal appearance. While others are seen as the "normal" these beautiful people are suffering for no valid reason. Our cultural backgrounds should not affect the way one is treated.
This is more aimed at our Maori people who are being treated like foreigners on their own land.

Human Rights Reflection

Something that really surprised me was that even now people are getting treated differently than others and their rights are being taken away from them without reason. I am extremely against this in the reason that no one should have to suffer from criticism in their everyday lives. The most important thing I have learned from this unit was that all Human Beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, therefore there is no need for governments to mandate a covid vaccination. Some important questions that I would like to ask is, How long does the vaccine protection last? Does the vaccine provide full protection of the corona-virus? If not, should you have to take another shot of the vaccine?

My Values

Me personally, I admire a lot of values. Two values that are most important to me is kindness and Loyalty. The importance of these values is because I love and appreciate anyone that can show kindness or understanding towards others and can be selfless about it at the same time. It truly irritates me when people make the decision to be rude or just annoying in general thinking that their cool. Loyalty is the second value that means a lot me as this value decides if I can place my full trust in you or not. Loyalty to me is having my back behind my back, keeping it hundred through thick and thin. If you cant deliver either one of those two values then I suggest you start working on it, because It will make you more of a  better person than you are now.

Wellington Trip

On the wellington trip we learnt about the history behind New Zealand's famous artefacts. It was a great experience even though I had already been once before.

My favourite part about the trip was having bonding time with the class. We have all became closer to each other and had made some good memories.

Heart Disections

In the past week for Science, we have been learning about how to dissect a heart and  how the different parts of the Cardiovascular System function.  I have also  been identifying and labelling the parts as well. If Im being honest it was  ugly when we had to stick these glass tubes in these weird looking holes, but funny at the same time. My favourite part about this lesson was just playing around with the hearts and lungs. Next year In 2021 I am looking forward to learning new things and I am for sure going to try harder and focus more on my mahi.

The photo below shows Matua Isaac demonstrating how to properly dissect a heart and us being good kids and listening nah jokes. Overall it was a weird but fun experience hope we dont do it again.
